The Shawnee Marathon was named the 5th best road race in the State of Illinois according to “Best of Illinois”
The fifth running of the Shawnee Marathon, Half Marathon and Jackson Falls 10K (new for 2017)* is set for Saturday, October 28th and will draw participants from all over the country. In 2016, we saw participants from all over Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Delaware and even Japan!
*The Jackson Falls 10K gets it name from the well known waterfall in the Shawnee National Forest. The 10K route does not go past the falls.
The scenic route in the Shawnee National Forest runs from Southeastern Illinois College to the town of Equality and back. It is a Boston Marathon qualifying race, which means if runners meet a certain time goal, they can qualify for the Boston Marathon. (Click Here to see the qualifying standards)

Every Marathon & Half-Marathon participant receives a custom finishers medal and event shirt. 10K participants will receive a shirt.
There will be $3,450.00 worth of cash prizes awarded in the following manner:
1st place Marathon (Male & Female) – $500
2nd place Marathon (Male & Female) – $300
3rd place Marathon (Male & Female) – $200
1st place Half-Marathon (Male & Female) – $250
2nd place Half-Marathon (Male & Female) – $150
3rd place Half-Marathon (Male & Female) – $100
1st place 10K (Male & Female) – $100
2nd place 10K (Male & Female) – $75
3rd place 10K (Male & Female) – $50
There will be an additional $500 given to anyone who beats the course record for the Marathon and $250 for the Half-Marathon
There will also be awards given in age categories : Age categories are in 10 year increments (Could change to 5 year increments based on participant turnout)
